Have you ever gone for a walk and wondered what is that plant? Are you curious about local species of plants and animals that your region supports? PlantMap lets a user playfully identify plants and tag them to an interactive map. Once tagged, the user can see what organisms that plant supports. By seeing the locations of plants and filtering tags from user comments researchers can better understand a species' habitat at the ground level.
Uses for PlantMap might include: trying to track an invasive plant species or better understand what plants are thriving in an area. I am focusing on plants but I think the concept could work for things like crime maps or bird watching or census taking...
I am using Pixate to build a working prototype. It's fun to test the interactions and see what should happen when! Things I am looking for: What feels intuitive? and What interaction is delightful?
Because want to understand some key moments of education and enticement with this app, I still go back to drawings and conversations with people. Keeping it simple helps me ask about overall concepts.
